ABOUT LAKE SUZY
Lake Suzy, an unincorporated community in DeSoto County, Florida, is located at the extreme southwest corner of DeSoto County, eight miles northeast of Port Charlotte in Charlotte County. Lake Suzy consists of condos, townhomes and single-family homes that range in size up to 6,000 square feet. The median listing price of homes is slightly under $200,000. All lakefront property owners are automatically members of the Lake Suzy Maintenance Corporation, with the owners holding voting shares depending on the number of lots owned. The Corporation administers lake maintenance and the details of their responsibilities are noted in the "Articles of Incorporation". All actual lake maintenance costs and other expenses result in a nominal annual assessment per lakefront lot.
Fishing in Lake Suzy is excellent with a substantial number of Largemouth Bass, Blue Channel Catfish Tilapia (Nile Perch), Bluegills and some Black Specked Crappie. The lake is in excellent condition with very little noxious growth. Only boats with electric motors are allowed on the lake – no gasoline-driven motors of any kind. Swimming in the lake is strongly discouraged because there are some mature alligators and Leatherback (snapping) turtles. Local wildlife abounds, with the occasional sighting of deer and bobcats .All kinds of wading birds, hawks, ospreys and eagles are frequent visitors, and in the winter months, occasionally pelicans and seagulls can be observed.
Lake Suzy has easy access to I-75, and its proximity to Charlotte County allows residents to avail themselves to all the amenities of Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda. The stunning estate homes, wildlife and well-maintained lake make Lake Suzy feel like "a little piece of paradise".
